Westminster Ice Arena - Gasseau Hockey Programs

Dear Captains and Players,

We hope you will continue with us as we expand into a three rink facility just 12.3 miles down the road at Lakewood's Glacial Garden Skating Arena. Our commitment to the adult program will continue to be significant. For our customers, we are working to make the move just a simple change of venue with game nights, referees and divisions remaining intact. Links to the left of this note will take you to familiar sign-up and schedule pages.

We genuinely believe breaking beyond the limitations of our small, single-sheet facility will allow us to operate a true hockey facility that can support the growing adult hockey program. Our plan is to offer a much more consistent schedule, on better ice with supporting pick-ups, clinics, On the Pond program and services. More importantly, the facility's size gives us the flexibility to develop and grow well beyond nagging lease rumors and our single ice sheet. Our Adult League program is our TOP PRIORITY!

Contact us immediately if you have any questions. We want to make the transition as smooth as possible.

Our experience with Glacial Garden

Glacial Garden Lakewood CaliforniaThis is not a snap decision. It is based on first-hand experience with the Glacial Garden Skating Arena operation. For the last 12 months we have been using large amounts of ice time at Glacial in support of our youth program. We've seen the quality of the ice up close and seen that the facility is well managed.

Ice Pro, the ownership group of Westminster Ice, and Glacial have forged a long term relationship that should benefit all of the skaters in the various programs that operate out of Glacial Garden.

According to James Gasseau, President of Westminster Ice Arena, "As a business decision, it makes more sense to consolidate all of our ice programs under one roof. We are all very excited about having more space that comes with a larger facility especially the three big ice sheets. This will allow us to provide a better product and service to our customers. We simply outgrew the Westminster facility."

Having occupied the Westminster Ice Arena since 2001 the growth of the skating school, adult leagues, and the LA Hockey Club youth hockey program have initiated the need for larger facilities long term. LA Hockey Club, one of the largest youth ice hockey programs in Southern California with twenty-one teams, began the transition to Lakewood in September of 2007. The immediate eventuality is to integrate Westminster's skating school/figure skating, youth programs, and adult league into Glacial Gardens' programs as well.

Work is already underway to expand Glacial Gardens' NHL-2 (Formally Rink C) to an NHL size ice surface giving the Lakewood facility three full size ice sheets. Phase 1, started this month, is to increase the length of the NHL-2 ice surface and Phase 2, planned for the summer of 2009, will include the completion of other NHL-2 renovations.

Additional information

We are aware that the PCHL does utilize Lakewood as well, however, they will continue to operate as they have for the last several years as a good customer of Glacial Garden.  We will administer our own league alongside and independent of the PCHL.

If you are in need of a team, or a team in need of players, please let us know and we will work with you to either find you a team or fill your roster.

We are very excited about this new move! This will allow us to continue to build our strong adult hockey program.

We look forward to sharing our new venture with all of our Westminster hockey family. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me at lakewoodadulthockey@yahoo.com.

Sincerely,

Terri Wethersett
